Manufacturing Operations Manager / Booneville, MS

This Position is for a Manufacturing Operations Manager with a work location in Booneville, MS.

Position Summary

ACCO Brands is seeking a Manager, Manufacturing Operations for the Booneville, MS team. The ideal candidate will provide the team development, technical expertise, and operational leadership required to run the site’s day to day manufacturing operations. This position will develop, manage and focus on operational metrics associated with the facilities overall safety, quality, cost, and delivery/service.

Oversees and directs all manufacturing and support activities (Production Personnel, Department Supervisors, Plant Engineering, Maintenance and Quality Control) to meet facility and/or organizational objectives.

Ensures all employees in the facility adhere to and follow all required safety guidelines and protocols (PPE, ergonomics, housekeeping, 6S, etc.) to provide for a safe and productive work environment.

Strives to develop and maintain a culture of continuous improvement/operational excellence based on teaching and implementing Lean Management Principles. â—¦Manages daily operating results (Safety, labor efficiency, machine downtime, scrap, variable overhead expense, delivery), analyzes variance, and initiates corrective and/or improvements activity as required.

Drives the implementation of a “Visual Factory” by incorporating management dashboards, and production floor visual indicators of adherence to “Standard Work” for both assembly and management team members.

Trains employees to “see” opportunities and empower them to make changes

Focused engagement on overall manufacturing flexibility and the minimization of associated inventory (Raw/WIP/FG). Move factory to pull and make-to-order where applicable

Maximizes the reliability/effectiveness of equipment and minimizes set-up/changeover time to respond to rapid changes in customer requirements.

Works in close partnership with various Corporate/Site/Division leaders to develop operational goals, benchmark best practices, and implement standard work that will eliminate or minimize waste.

Identify, support, and facilitate Kaizen events in support of operational objectives.

Partners with peers in Product Development, Marketing, and Sales to evaluate new and existing products for DFM opportunities.

Provides operational assistance and alignment to the production planning and procurement departments in the development of daily production goals, adherence to schedule, and on-hand (raw materials and finished good) inventory levels.

Accountable for developing production and staffing plans required to meet customer expectations of on-time delivery and service levels.

Responsible for ensuring that production transactions, movement of material, and routine manufacturing reporting requirements are done in a consistent, accurate and timely manner an SAP/APO environment.

Strategically manages the availability of raw materials/components (lead time, cost, capacity) and optimizes plant efficiency by developing and implementing level loaded and/or flexible production schedules.  

Reviews daily/weekly/monthly/annual quality and customer concern data to ensure proper corrective actions are being taken and that appropriate objectives are being identified to drive customer satisfaction.

Proactively evaluate new production techniques, processes, and machinery to recommend potential cost savings initiatives, innovative designs for manufacturing and appropriate capital spending that will improve quality, efficiency and overall profitability of plant operations.

Develop and maintain the annual manufacturing/capital budget, evaluates monthly financial results, investigates significant variances, and initiates corrective and/or improvement activity.

Manages employee performance and assists employees through coaching, mentoring, training and the administration of annual performance reviews.

Routinely communicates company strategy, goals, and business concerns through team and individual meetings.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or Operations Management. MBA preferred.

7+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience.  Previous management experience within the consumer products industry a plus. 

Strong Lean/Six Sigma knowledge, experience, and implementation skills. Certification preferred. 

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and change management skills.

Demonstrated experience in the lean transformation of site(s)

Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, an empower employees to be disciples of lean manufacturing; create a culture of winning

Strategic thinker with proven problem-solving skills and analytical ability.

Proficiency using MS office applications.

Working Conditions: Time is spent on the factory floor in a factory environment. Personal safety equipment could include safety glasses, hearing protection, and possibly safety shoes. Building is temperature controlled but would be exposed to heat, cold, humidity, machine noises, and is in the proximity of moving machine parts.
