The City of Laurel is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Public Works Director. This is a full-time, salaried position in which the Director works regular hours and is always on call. The Public Works Director has the primary responsibility of the organization, operation, and overall performance of the Public Works Department. This department includes the divisions of Street Maintenance, Drainage, Sanitation, and the Auto Shop.

Essential Duties:
• Overseeing budgetary operations • Ensuring proper organization and direction of personnel • Performing administrative duties of the department • Develop and recommend policy options and alternatives for consideration of the City Council • Accountability for monetary, fiscal, budgetary, safety, and legal issues related to the Public Works Department.

The right candidate should have knowledge of Public Works Operations, including construction, engineering, maintenance, office and business procedures, and possess basic computer skills. Experience in management and supervisory principles and practices, as applies to municipal government, is desired. Additionally, experience in municipal procedures related to finance, personnel, purchasing, risk management, and public relations is desired. This candidate should also possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, news media, employees, external agencies and organizations, and the City Council. The ideal candidate should also possess superior leadership and communication skills, as well as, a high degree of personal integrity.

Requirements:
â?¢ Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Drafting, or a related field is preferred.
â?¢ Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
â?¢ Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Municipal engineering or related field is preferred
