TITLE: BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s Degree in Behavior Analysis, Clinical Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, Social Work or a related field
2. Proven ability to independently develop, implement, and adjust behavior intervention programs.
3. Experience in supervisory or leadership roles, mentoring junior staff, or leading behavior intervention initiatives.
4. Demonstrated proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting behavior data to inform intervention strategies.
5. Knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support and interventions
6. Experience in a related field

REPORTS TO: Supervising Administrator
JOB GOAL: Behavior specialists are responsible for generating in both regular education setting as well as those students implementing programs to effect a change in behavioral and social problems for students eligible for severely emotionally disturbed and autistic programs; (s) he is also available for consultation to school personnel and parents of these students T
YPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including, but are not limited to:
1. Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans
2. Use professional expertise and independent judgment to assess student needs
3. Creates tailored intervention strategies, and monitor progress, ensuring alignment with best practices and ethical standards.
4. Assisting in programs for these students that are consistent with the total educational philosophy and goals of the School Board
5. Continuing professional growth through educational meetings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas among the district staff
6. Working in coordination with other teachers and administrators in planning and developing the Behavioral Program
7. Working as a team member in the development and implementation of inclusion procedures
8. Conducting workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with special education students.
9. Participating as a team member in the identification of social/behavioral problems
10. Assisting with, implementing, and following up on behavioral management programs for students to affect behavioral and social changes
11. Participating in the development of the individual educational programs for these students
12. Participating as a team member in the evaluation of student progress
13. Assisting other professionals with student crisis intervention
14. Planning and conferring with the classroom teacher(s) of these students as requested concerning any behavioral, social, or personal problems affecting the students
15. Developing and conducting in-service activities regarding techniques for behavioral changes, social, or personal problems of students
16. Assisting the teachers of these students with the development of crisis prevention plans
17. Providing training for paraprofessionals with the programs in the areas of behavior management skills and affective education
18. Coordinating and conducting individual parent education and counseling sessions with the parents of these students
19. Assisting parents in locating and obtaining community resources which are available to these students and their families
20. Updating and maintaining information concerning parent training
21. Assisting in developing and maintaining home-school relations in crisis situations with these students
22. Completing reports for appropriate local and state educational agencies
23. Assisting with the development and maintenance of program evaluation procedures
24. Assisting with case-management and team problem-solving with other behavioral specialists, agency personnel, and other appropriate professionals on a regular basis
25. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
26. Supports the Hattiesburg Public School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
27. Performs other duties as assigned
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Trustees
