Position Overview
The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher. They ensure continuity of learning by following lesson plans, maintaining classroom order, and supporting students’ academic and social development.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver instructional activities based on the absent teacher’s lesson plans.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
• Adapt teaching methods when lesson plans are unavailable.
• Supervise students during class, transitions, lunch, and recess as needed.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the regular teacher.
• Uphold school policies, rules, and procedures.
• Report any concerns regarding student behavior, safety, or academic issues to school administration.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
• Valid teaching license or substitute teaching permit (requirements vary by state/district).
• Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage classroom dynamics and engage students effectively.
• Flexibility and adaptability in diverse classroom settings.
Working Conditions
• On-call or scheduled assignments depending on school needs.
• May work across multiple grade levels (elementary, middle, or high school).
• Requires standing, walking, and supervising students for extended periods.
