Raytheon is seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to provide unique packaging designs and engineering in support of purchased parts and assemblies, manufacturing processes and finished product outbound to our customers. 

 

Our products have a wide range of size and complexity from thumb drives to heavy weight and oversized major end items of radars, shelters and antennas. This position supports multiple major production programs by creating and maintaining the packaging solutions supporting preservation and shipment of deliverable products.

 

In this role, you’ll balance multiple projects and customers in a dynamic manufacturing landscape, supporting cost reduction and process improvement initiatives as well as manufacturing activities on the production floor.

 

What You Will Do

 

Developing thoughtful, effective and innovative packaging solutions to support the preservation and safe shipment of all hardware. 

 

Creating packaging designs using CREO 3D CAD, including:

 

Protective cushioned packs

 

Corrugated structures

 

Wood crates and assemblies

 

Vacuum formed plastic

 

Initiating cost reductions and process improvements

 

Teaming with Mission Assurance, Test Engineering and Operations Personnel along with Traffic, Safety and EHS to ensure deliverables are achieved on time and with value

 

Create and update work instructions to ensure all technical requirements are captured and met for assembly.

 

Perform Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action when defects occur.

 

Planning, coordinating and executing Package Performance testing using ASTM D 4169 and/or International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) protocol

 

Developing and maintaining special packaging instructions and drawings meeting Military and Best Commercial standards.

 

Proactively undertake safety initiatives including job hazard analysis and ergonomic assessments.

 

Qualifications You Must Have

 

Typically Requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 2 years of relevant experience. 

 

Hands on experience with CREO, or other CAD software

 

Experience with project management

 

The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

 

Qualifications We Prefer

 

Knowledge of distribution environments and their influence on packaging design

 

Knowledge and experience meeting MIL STD 2073 military packaging requirements

 

Existing CFR 49/IATA certification (or ability to be certified) to package, mark, label, and ship dangerous goods.

 

Lean manufacturing experience

 

Working knowledge of manufacturing assembly, torque controls and analysis of assembly tolerance stack up.

 

Experience with cushion curves and design

 

Experience with shock and vibration testing and analysis

 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present ideas to senior level stakeholders

The salary range for this role is 59,000 USD - 117,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
