Description:
Early Childhood Education (ECE)
• Using a research-based instrument, observe the classroom (0-5) staff to assess their needs to effectively assist them in improving teaching strategies and instructional practices.
• Provide individualized coaching to teaching staff as needed.
• Assist classroom staff in developing a plan of action to improve their skills for working with young children in the Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms.
• Assist classroom staff in maintaining compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and appropriate procedures.
• Provide coaching to the teachers for the supervision of children inside and outside the classrooms.
• Coach the classroom teachers for appropriate classroom arrangements to maximize learning potential for all children.
• Keep abreast of up-to-date mentoring and coaching practices for preschool teachers and childcare providers.
• To provide and attend training and technical assistance to classroom staff as needed and as required.
• Provide monthly status reports in conjunction with the ECE Specialist to District Managers, ECE/EHS Generalist, ECE, and EHS Directors.
• Provide feedback on classroom observation and staff coaching needs after each observation to the Center Administrator.
• Meet with the ECE Specialist to plan, coordinate, and implement coaching recommendations after each site visit, as soon as possible.
• Coordinate, review, and give timely feedback to classroom staff to ensure teaching strategies and instructional practices are effective.
• Assist in monitoring the classroom environment for safety practices.
• Become CLASS reliable to ensure high-quality teaching and learning in the classrooms.
• Support the teaching staff in best practices for early childhood in working with all children, including children with disabilities.
• Assist in monitoring and supervising the fidelity of the implementation of the curriculum.
• Assist in providing pre-service training to classroom staff
• Assist in providing in-service training to classroom staff.
• Provide coaching on the assessment process to classroom staff as needed.
• Conduct Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observations.
Health and Safety
• Monitor the classroom environment for safety practices, i.e., covered outlet, sharp edges, accessible exit windows, chemical out of children’s reach, etc.
• Monitor for the supervision of all children at all times.
• Monitor playgrounds for age-appropriate equipment and supervision practices.
• Monitor the hand-washing procedures and practices of the children.
Child Development - Health
• Monitor tooth brushing practices and procedures.
Record Keeping and Reporting
• Submit a monthly status report of routine monitoring with corrections and recommendations.
• Enter CLASS observation results in the ChildPlus System.
Requirements:
• Master’s degree preferred in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, and at least three years demonstrated related experience with age groups 8 weeks to 5 years through employment or practicum, in a per-school educational environment OR Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, and at least five years demonstrated related experience with 8 weeks to 5 years through employment or practicum in a pre-school environment.
• Strong knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards; Head Start and State Child Care regulatory environment.
• Strong knowledge of theories and practices of Early Childhood Development in Head Start.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, internet and email.
• Current enrollment in the Mississippi Department of Health Child Care Division-Criminal History/Background Registry
• Valid Mississippi Driver’s License and access to transportation
