Job Title:

Job Summary:

Responsible for implementing fundraising campaign, public relations, outreach, and marketing strategies to advance The MIND Center’s missions in Research, Health Care and Education. In partnership with leadership of The MIND Center and the Office of Institutional Advancement, will develop, implement and achieve an annual plan to achieve The MIND Center’s fundraising goals. Responsible for creating and driving effective strategies designed to interest, engage, and secure a wide range of major gift prospects and donors to support research, capital, programmatic, clinical, and educational funding opportunities. Develops and implements an integrated strategic communications plan to promote The MIND Center to advance the organization’s brand identity, increase donor engagement and retention, broaden awareness of The MIND Center’s programs and priorities, and increase the visibility of the organization across key stakeholder audiences.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in business, health sciences, or healthcare administration and five years of experience in non-profit and major gift fundraising to include 2 years of leadership/managerial experience. Academic medical center or hospital experience experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Understanding of major issues and trends in health care and philanthropy and knowledge of major fundraising complexities within a medical center or similar environment. Knowledge of management principles and ability to apply them to effectively manage talent and performance of staff. Outstanding interpersonal, strategic planning, administrative, organizational, and time management skills. Superior communication and writing skills. An innovative spirit to maximize new media and social media platforms. Deadline-driven, with a commitment to customer-service and the ability to drive and manage multiple projects and work both independently and as part of a larger team. Proficient in building effective, collaborative relationships internally with departments, program staff, physicians, and other internal and external constituents. Competent in prioritizing, negotiating, and influencing effectively. Political savviness, sensitivity and diplomacy. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion on behalf of philanthropic donors and medical center colleagues.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Advances an active portfolio of 50 to 125 donors and prospects from alumni, grateful patients, corporations, and friends throughout Mississippi, in the $10,000 -- $1,000,000+ gift range. Proactively pursues grant opportunities with foundations of all sizes on the local, state, regional, and national level. Develops and implements annual gift strategies for individual donors and prospects related to specific fundraising initiatives.

Serves as primary contact or liaison for major fundraising campaigns and other related activities. When necessary, establishes and leads advisory boards, fundraising event committees, and/or capital campaign fundraising committees.

In concert with the UMMC Office of Communications and Marketing, manages The MIND Center’s internal and external communications activities including advertising, marketing, and media relations, to promote The MIND Center’s programs and services.

Supervises, mentors, and motivates development, program administration, and support staff.

Builds and deepens community partnerships with organizations and key stakeholders, evaluating status of MIND Center partnerships on an annual basis, and making recommendations to MIND Center leadership for the following year’s programming.

Represents The MIND Center through individual and group meetings and presentations to local, state, national and international partners and stakeholders. Plans and facilitates meetings and conferences with a broad variety of constituent, partner, and stakeholder groups.

Designs and implements new development processes including case statements, talking points, proposals, briefing materials, and major fundraising campaigns. Serves as primary editor and content creator for The MIND Center’s Annual Update and Connections Newsletter.

Collaborates effectively with other gift officers, MIND Center Community Advisory Board members, MIND Center and UMMC leadership, and/or fundraising volunteers to ensure that all possible gift acknowledgment/stewardship opportunities are realized. 

Prepares articulate, tailored, gift acknowledgment letters. Prepares correspondence, including major gift proposals/solicitations, for MIND Center and UMMC leadership. Produces appropriate collateral materials. Manages relationships with donors and their financial advisors to encourage gifts, as appropriate.

Maintains current and comprehensive donor records, both electronic and hard copy and complies with established medical center, MIND Center, and development office customer service standards.

Requires frequent working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, frequent travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, frequent driving, occasional kneeling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
