Postion Summary
The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching elementary and intermediate levels of Spanish. In addition to teaching assigned classes, duties will include conducting examinations, grading student work, keeping accurate records of student performance and class attendance, attending departmental and campus-wide meetings, and participating in campus activities and committees.
The selected candidate is supervised by the department chair, and the individual who fills this position has the opportunity to influence departmental curriculum development and implementation. The selected candidate will also participate in departmental recruiting and service to the college activities as assigned.
Duties
Responsibilities include teaching four undergraduate courses per semester, serving the College through committee participation, and supporting departmental efforts for continued improvement of programs. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a majority African American student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A Ph.D. in Spanish is preferred. A Master’s degree in Spanish will be considered. Teaching experience at the high school, community college, or college level is expected.
