Job Summary:
The speech therapist functions under the general supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation Services, inpatient and outpatient. This position assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provides speech and language therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.
Education Requirements:
Must be a graduate of an approved school of Speech Language Pathology or have a certification from an American Speech Language and Hearing Association.
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
Current CPR certification required. Must have or be eligible for a Mississippi State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist per state law.
Experience/Qualifications Requirements:
Prefer a minimum of 2 years clinical experience.
Language/Communication Skills:
English required. Multilingual capabilities enhance the ability to perform this job. Must have the ability to speak effectively and professionally to all staff, management, and all outside individuals at all levels from elementary to professional. Must have the ability to speak intelligently and in a professional manner before others. Must have supervision and leadership skills.
Reasoning Abilities:
Must be able to apply the theory of Speech Therapy and perform technical procedures. Must be able to instill confidence in patients, physicians, and personnel. Must be able to determine proper procedures and methods and evaluate results. Speech therapists must have the ability to adapt to emergency situations, be alert to changes in a patient's condition and must maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, receiving and translating information, and charting and reporting.
