.Language Speech Pathologist Job Description

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science in Language Speech.

                                     Preferably Master’s Degree in Language Speech Pathology.                                                         Preferably ASHA Certified.

Valid Mississippi Educator License.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with teachers, students, parents, and the public.

Ability to work with students with disabilities.

 

REPORTS TO:

Special Education Director Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL:

To provide speech language services to identify students as outlined by their Individual Education Plan.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct screening and testing of students in order to determine appropriate placement in special education.

Prepare written reports of assessments.

Participate in the development of the Individual Education Program for students placed in the special education program.

Identify students for special education programs as a member of team which then places students when appropriate.

Develop IEPs for identified speech/language students.

Provide specialized instruction/therapy to identified speech/language students.

Consult with teacher on follow-through activities for identified students.

Observe students in order to identify children who may need speech and language assessment.

Provide information to the IEP Team for the development of the IEP.

Provide consultation to regular and special education teachers having students in the speech/language program.

Modify a student’s speech and language program as indicated by periodic evaluation.

Cooperate with other staff members involved in implementing a child’s IEP including the special education and regular classroom teacher.

Maintain up to date records of student progress.

Confer with parents regarding their child’s progress.

Participate in staff development programs.

 

LANGUAGE SPEECH PATHOLOGIST (continued)

 

Work with the Case Manager in insuring the procedures for placement of students have been followed, particularly as it relates to parental consent and provision of information regarding Procedural Safeguards and parent rights.

Conduct the annual revision of IEPs and three-year reevaluation for students.

Ensure that each student has the necessary records in the IEP folder.

Complete Medicaid forms in a timely and efficient manner.

IEPs are developed in an appropriate and timely manner.

IEP meetings are scheduled and conducted in an appropriate, professional, and timely manner.

Re-evaluations are conducted in an appropriate and timely manner.

Obligations are met on time.

Maintain contact with the Special Education Director or Case Manager concerning difficult cases.

Any other duties assigned by the Special Education Director.

 

Terms of Employment:

187 Day Contract. Salary commensurate with experience and established by the Board.
