Tupelo-Lee Humane Society is seeking an organized, personable, and mission-driven Outreach Coordinator to help connect TLHS with the surrounding community. This position plays an important role in volunteer coordination, community engagement, education, events, tours, and fundraising support.
The Outreach Coordinator serves as a key point of connection between the shelter, volunteers, community members, schools, civic groups, donors, and animal welfare supporters. This role is ideal for someone who is professional, dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working with people and animals, and passionate about helping homeless pets.
Job Purpose
The Outreach Coordinator plans, performs, and maintains community outreach activities that connect Tupelo-Lee Humane Society with the surrounding community. This role develops, coordinates, and maintains a strong and efficient volunteer program, conducts facility tours, represents TLHS at community and school events, provides education related to animal welfare, and assists with fundraising efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers.
- Maintain a volunteer database tracking volunteer and community service hours.
- Schedule volunteer assignments while coordinating with shelter operations and shelter staff.
- Maintain a volunteer calendar.
- Work with the city’s community service program and schedule community service assignments.
- Coordinate community service assignments with shelter operations and shelter staff.
- Coordinate and conduct facility tours with community groups and individuals.
- Develop and coordinate educational presentations to educate the community on animal welfare and animal welfare practices.
- Serve as a liaison between Tupelo-Lee Humane Society and the Tupelo High School TLHS Club.
- Assist with fundraising efforts and events.
- Promote community awareness of shelter activities and events using social media platforms.
- Monitor and maintain the Paw Partner donor database and produce reports as required.
- Write thank-you cards and thank-you letters as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Three or more years of customer service experience in an office setting preferred.
- Clerical experience in an office setting is desired.
- Computer experience with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with co-workers, the public, and callers by telephone.
- Must be organized, structured, responsible, and dependable.
- Must demonstrate good integrity and moral character.
- Must be willing to work with and handle animals.
- Must be able to work in a busy, fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in a typical office setting near the front of the facility where visitors, staff, volunteers, and community members may come and go. This position will handle and interact with animals as required, including animals who may be fearful, stressed, or fractious. Work may include weekends and holidays depending on shelter needs, community events, and outreach activities.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, handle documents, packages, supplies, and animals, and work in a sometimes stressful environment involving employees, the public, and animals. Must be able to stand, work on foot, sit, kneel, or crouch for extended periods as needed.
