This position is for a Student Life Coordinator with a company in Gautier, MS.


Job Description: The Coordinator of Student Life is responsible for creating a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging campus experience that supports student connection, leadership, and retention. Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, this position leads student programming efforts and fosters meaningful involvement opportunities on a commuter campus. Key responsibilities include planning and executing student events, advising student leaders and organizations, and collaborating with college staff to promote a strong sense of community. The Coordinator plays a central role in cultivating student life that reflects the college’s mission and supports the overall student experience.


Job Duties



  1. Serve as the primary coordinator for student life activities and engagement events on the Jackson County Campus, including but not limited to Welcome Week, Lagniappe Day, Fall Festival, Student Leadership Conference, Homecoming activities, and other campus traditions and student engagement events.

  2. Develop and implement creative, innovative, and inclusive programs and initiatives that support student engagement, increase participation, and help students feel connected to campus, particularly for a commuter student population.

  3. Lead event logistics, setup coordination, vendor coordination, space needs, and assessment for student life events and activities.

  4. Maintain and publish a campus calendar for student life activities.

  5. Advise the Student Government Association (SGA), including the executive board and representatives. Coordinate SGA elections, budgeting, leadership retreats, governance initiatives, SGA-led events, advocacy efforts, and opportunities that promote the student voice on campus.

  6. Advise the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and guide student engagement programming, campus activities, and related events.

  7. Provide leadership and support for recognized student organizations and clubs, including new club development, recognition, annual renewal, advisor support, officer updates, membership records, required documentation, and compliance with college procedures.

  8. Serve as a resource for student organization advisors, officers, and members regarding college policies, event planning, fundraising, travel, publicity, deposits, fund requests, and other required approval processes.

  9. Facilitate Interclub Council meetings to support communication among student organizations and assist with planning campus-wide activities.

  10. Support Reflections Team activities and assist with the selection, training, development, and support of team members, including supervision during assigned activities as needed.

  11. Promote student leadership development for SGA, CAB, Reflections Team members, and other student leaders through meetings, workshops, retreats, conferences, and other co-curricular opportunities.

  12. Manage assigned Student Life budgets, including budget planning, procurement, P-Card purchases, purchase tracking, budget monitoring, and reconciliation in accordance with college financial policies and procedures.

  13. Maintain accurate records and reports for student life activities and engagement, including attendance, program assessment, required documentation, and other related records.

  14. Monitor student life and student organization compliance with college policies, Student Handbook expectations, financial procedures, and risk management guidelines.

  15. Coordinate Student Life communications and outreach, including social media content, email distribution lists, student contact lists, digital signage, campus announcements, and marketing requests as appropriate.

  16. Develop and promote volunteer opportunities, service projects, and campus or community drives in partnership with local organizations when appropriate.

  17. Collaborate with the Student Services team to support the planning and execution of major campus and college-wide events, including New Student Orientation, registration events, awards programs, graduation/commencement activities, Bulldog Day, campus tours, prospective student events, summer camps, and other assigned events.

  18. Represent the college at local high schools, community events, and with community groups and organizations.

  19. Collaborate with Student Life counterparts at other campuses to share information, coordinate district-wide student events, support consistency, and assist with college-wide traditions and initiatives.

  20. Provide general support and advisement to prospective students and parents; refer students to appropriate campus or community resources when student needs or behavior concerns are identified.

  21. Maintain a visible, approachable, and student-friendly presence on campus, gather student feedback, and respond to student questions, concerns, and difficult situations with professionalism, patience, and sound judgment.

  22. Work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours, to support student activities, campus events, and student organization needs.

  23. Participate in appropriate campus and college committees, meetings, planning groups, and initiatives, as appointed.

  24. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to support professional development and stay current regarding student life, student engagement, student organization practices, event planning, and related higher education trends.

  25. Adhere to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Policy Handbook and support the college mission, values, and goals through professional service to students, employees, and community partners.

  26. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management and/or the Vice President of the Jackson County Campus.


Mandatory Qualifications:


(M1) Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in education, recreation, or related field.


(M2) Professional experience advising or working with college student groups.


(M3) Event planning experience.


(M4) Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.


(M5) Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.


Desirable Qualifications:


(D1) Master’s Degree in education or a related area.


(D2) Student activities, recreation, wellness, and/or outdoor leadership experience at the collegiate level.
