Director, External Corporate Communications

Humana's seeking a Director of Corporate Communications to join the Corporate Communications Team to lead our external communications efforts. The Corporate Communications team at Humana is responsible for leading and executing strategies for external stakeholders, media relations, public affairs, issues, and crisis communications, enhancing and building the Humana Brand. This role is critical in shaping and delivering our corporate message to various external audiences, including media, customers and influencers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in complex business environments, regulatory industries, and multi-stakeholder communications, particularly within the healthcare sector.

**Key Role Functions**

+ Develop and deploy a modern, unified communications strategy that builds Humana's corporate reputation among key audiences, including media, attentive public, healthcare influencers, and consumers

+ Be a strong and dynamic senior leader with a track record of successfully shaping and implementing compelling communications campaigns. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of communications work against core objectives and identify areas for improvement

+ Cultivate and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including industry associations, journalists, and advocacy groups, ensuring alignment and support for the company's initiatives

+ Navigate complex regulatory environments by developing clear and compliant communication strategies related to Medicaid, Medicare, and other healthcare regulations

+ Lead the development and execution of sophisticated crisis communication plans, ensuring the company is prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any potential issues

+ Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on external communication matters, including speechwriting and media training

+ Partner closely with teams across Corporate Communications, Business Functions, and Operations to align on high-visibility campaigns and business needs

+ Mentor and develop a high-performing communications team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement

+ Ensure a modern, digital-first approach to the use of both traditional and social media channels to influence key stakeholders

**Required Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field

+ 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, with a focus on external communications

+ Experience in crisis communications and media relations

+ Proven experience in complex business environments and regulatory industries

+ Strong understanding of the healthcare sector

+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

+ Demonstrated ability to manage multi-stakeholder communications and build relationships with diverse audiences

+ Strong leadership and team management skills

+ Ability to think strategically and execute tactically

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Master's degree

+ Medicaid or Medicare experience

+ Management experience

**Additional Information**

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

+ At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

+ Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership

+ Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

+ Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

+ Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

**Pay Range**

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$168,000 - $231,000 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
