Senior Hardware Engineer - Fiber Optics
**Description**

SAIC is seeking a? **Hardware Engineer with expertise in fiber optics** in Pascagoula, MS for shipboard Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems. This program will be part of a transformative venture, driving the future of next generation afloat mission effectiveness through the integration of? **cutting-edge commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems** ?and network technologies using fiber-optic infrastructure.

**Job Duties:**

· Perform Fiber Optics related Hardware Engineering to support stage 4 and 5 test procedures development and test execution projects for shipboard C5ISR systems.

· Assess engineering change proposals and document risks and impacts to project milestones and deliverables with focus on maintaining fiber optic standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1773, -2042, -2052, -2163 and TIA-568, IEEE 802.3).

· Develop, update and maintain engineering documents including:

o Stage 4 and 5 test procedures for integrated C5ISR and COTS systems.

o Interface control documents, cable block diagram, fiber optic cable topology, and wiring diagrams specific to fiber optic cables, connectors and back shells.

o Hardware configurations including cabinets, trays, fixtures, sway braces, connectors and fiber optic components.

o Hardware environmental qualification analysis reports (eg, shock, vibration, and Mil-STD-461 EMI/EMC).

**Qualifications**

**Required Education and Experience:**

· Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and nine (9) years or more relevant experience hardware engineering (focused on fiber optics infrastructure) with one or more shipboard C5ISR systems: radio communication racks (UHF, HF, VHF), Interior Communications(Alarm/Safety/Warning), shipboard CGOne/Unclass/SIPRNET LANs, Surface Search Radar, Navigation Distribution system, Integrated Bridge System; BS degree maybe offset with additional four (4) years relevant experience.

· Experience designing, installing, or maintaining?fiber optic networks, including integration with modern?COTS systems, components, fiber optic cables, coaxial, cat 5/6 cables and fiber cable termination and splicing using appropriate tools.

**Required Security Clearance:**

· Must have an active secret clearance on first day of employment.

**Required Certifications:**

· **Fiber Optic Certification** , such as ETA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), FOA Certification, or equivalent.

**Desired Qualifications and Experience:**

· Familiarity with? **COTS communication systems** ?that leverage fiber optic infrastructure, including:

o **Cisco routers and switches** ?(e.g., Catalyst or Nexus models)

o **Juniper networking equipment**

o **Media converters** ?for fiber-to-copper integration

o **Network Interface Cards (NICs)** ?supporting fiber

o **Patch panels** ?and optical splitter equipment

· Proficiency of Microsoft Office suite and Autocad

· Experience with fiber optics test equipment (eg LED and Laser Light sources, power meters, optical time domain reflectometer, optical loss test set, optical video inspection system, optical leak detector).

· Experience with MIL-STD-2106 Development of Shipboard Industrial Test procedures

· Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) IA Level II - Security+ certification, or CSSIP or equivalent.

· Prior experience providing support for a project in a shipyard environment

**Desired/Key C3ISR, C4ISR, C5ISR, and/or C6ISR Shipboard Systems Experience:**

· Integrated Bridge System

· Gyrocompass (e.g., WSN-7)

· Surface Search Radars (e.g., AN/SPY-6, SPS-series)

· UHF, HF, VHF Marine Radios

· Shipboard Communication Cabinets

· Shipboard Alarms and Interior Communications (Safety, Warning Systems)

· Fathometer and Depth Sounding Systems

· Global Positioning Systems (GPS)

· Sonar Mission System (SMS)

· Extremely High Frequency (EHF) Communications

· NIPRNET, SIPRNET, SI LAN

· Enhanced expertise with? **high-performance COTS systems** ?associated with fiber optics:

o **Cisco and Juniper Networking Equipment** ?(e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, access points)

o **Fiber Patch Panels** , couplers, splitters, and distribution frames

o **Optical adapters** ?and? **fiber transceivers** ?for high data-rate communications (e.g., SFP/SFP+)

o **Media converters** ?and Ethernet-over-fiber solutions
