Seeking a Protective Relay and Transformer Testing Specialist with 7-10 years of experience . This role provides expert testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning support for protective relays and power transformers across coal, gas, and hydro facilities. Responsibilities include leading craftsmen, developing procedures, supporting design changes, ensuring NERC compliance, and resolving complex technical issues with minimal supervision. Must be able to obtain required plant access and travel to field locations as needed.
JobSummary
Serves as an expert for the Coal, Gas & Hydro Power systems in the maintenance and/or modification of plant protective relays and transformer testing equipment, components, and systems.
Conducts testing and provides expert advice to others engaged in performance testing, installation and commissioning of protective relay systems. Conducts and provides expert advice in testing of power transformers including the use, application and interpretation of Doble, Meggar, Turns Ratio, Power Factor, Leakage Reactance and SFRA test equipment. Supervises Electrical craftsmen and other professional employees in the pursuit of accurate testing results. Completes Design Change Notices, project installations, interprets vendor performance analysis, failure analysis, and other investigative practices to improve equipment health and meet NERC requirements for testing protective relays.
Performs complex electrical control troubleshooting in support of Operations and Maintenance. Develops job plans, procedures and step text to implement corrective actions and eliminate HU events. Responsible for providing authoritative advice, technical direction, and regulatory interpretation to private contractors, partners, and TVA organizations (e.g., equipment specifications and modification and design needs).
May supervise craftsmen and other professional employees in the execution of job plans. Provides recommendations on staffing, equipment requirements, and work management methods to meet business objectives. Ensures workforce is adequately trained in all necessary functions to safely and effectively perform the job. Monitors safe work activities of TVA and contract employees submitting observations documenting the performance of the work activity.

Plans and executes assignments with minimal instructions. Determines scope, resource requirements, and priorities based on outlined objectives. Resolves unusual problems through use of seasoned judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness. Consults as needed with engineers and managers. Completed projects are checked for conformance to policy, program requirements and timeliness.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements High school diploma is required; additional technical education is required. Expert knowledge of plant components, plant operations, testing processes and work management systems is required. Associate Technical Degree, experience as maintenance foreman, maintenance specialist, or completion of special OEM training courses is highly desirable.
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and to be temporarily assigned to a field location.
