**Position Overview**
The IT Configuration Manager directs configuration management practices for enterprise IT environments, ensuring that configuration items and their relationships are accurately recorded and controlled across the service lifecycle. The role oversees the design, population, and governance of the configuration management database and related repositories to support incident, problem, and change processes in a federal IT environment. The IT Configuration Manager collaborates with infrastructure, application, and security teams to maintain controlled baselines, prevent configuration drift, and provide actionable configuration insights that improve impact analysis, risk assessment, and service restoration time.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Design and maintain the configuration management system, including the CMDB data model, class structures, and relationship mappings for infrastructure and application configuration items.
+ Establish and enforce configuration management policies, procedures, and naming conventions aligned to ITIL guidance and enterprise architecture standards.
+ Integrate configuration data with change, incident, and problem workflows to support accurate impact analysis, dependency mapping, and rapid fault isolation for mission?critical services.
+ Conduct regular configuration audits, reconciliations, and baseline reviews to detect inconsistencies, unauthorized changes, and data quality issues, driving remediation activities with owning teams.
+ Work closely with platform administrators to implement and optimize CMDB capabilities in tools such as ServiceNow, including discovery, service mapping, and data normalization.
+ Produce configuration reports and visualizations that support capacity planning, risk assessments, architecture reviews, and compliance activities in highly regulated environments.
+ Coordinate with other ITIL processes, including change, incident, and release management, to ensure configuration data remains accurate and up to date throughout the service lifecycle.
+ Lead or contribute to CMDB implementation, remediation, and continuous?improvement initiatives across hybrid on?premises and cloud infrastructures.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
+ At least 8 years of experience in configuration management, CMDB administration, or related IT service management roles supporting enterprise environments.
+ Excellent understanding of configuration management principles, frameworks, and tools, including hands?on experience with platforms such as ServiceNow or BMC Remedy.
+ Demonstrated analytical, problem?solving, organizational, and project?management skills with the ability to lead configuration initiatives and manage competing priorities.
+ Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with infrastructure, application, security, and service management teams.
+ Proficiency with standard productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) used to document processes, metrics, and reports.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Formal training or certification in ITIL Service Configuration Management or broader ITIL/ITSM certifications.
+ Experience leading CMDB implementations, migrations, or remediation efforts across complex hybrid on?premises and cloud environments.
+ Prior experience working in federal or defense environments with mature ITSM governance models.

Compensation ranges for ASM Research positions vary depending on multiple factors; including but not limited to, location, skill set, level of education, certifications, client requirements, contract-specific affordability, government clearance and investigation level, and years of experience. The compensation displayed for this role is a general guideline based on these factors and is unique to each role.
