PHYSICAL SCIENTIST
Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will serve as a specialist in the planning, execution and processing of hydrographic surveys. You will collaborate with other technical experts to refine department wide processes. You will compile, analyze, evaluate and refine hydrographic, oceanographic, geodetic, navigational and bathymetric survey data collected by the branch. You will evaluate new techniques and their potential improvement in satisfying established requirements. You will conduct extensive logistic preparation for field operations and exercises including calibration and staging of equipment and liaison with participation organizations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications (For GS-13) In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Applicant resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience applying physical science principles to analyze data and resolve complex hydrographic problems. Experience communicating technical information, project plans, or findings to diverse audiences. Experience managing bathymetric survey data, including data organization, quality control, and metadata creation. Experience executing Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures for hydrographic data products. Experience coordinating and managing hydrographic survey projects, from initial planning through execution. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess Basic Requirements: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education AND Have completed an IHO Certified Category-A hydrographic program or hold an active ACSM/NSPS Certified Hydrographer qualification, or equivalent. ***Please proceed unofficial/official transcript to provide proof of basic education requirement.
